Maruti-Suzuki Vitara Brezza vs Hyundai Creta Comparison:

Overall, Vitara Brezza’s top-end ‘ZDi+’ variant is a mind blowing 1 Lakh Rs. cheaper in terms of Total Cost of Ownership than the Creta’s 1.4 litre engined, feature deficient ‘S’ variant. Without doubt it is better value for money and a more practical choice than the Hyundai Creta, given its extra features as well as superior dynamics compared to Creta and
thus is the clear winner of this comparison.

Pricing & Features Comparison:
Vitara Brezza’s top-most variant, the ‘ZDI+’ diesel retails for 9.54 Lakh, Ex-showroom, Delhi, which is 1.2 Lakh rupees cheaper than Creta 1.4 diesel ‘S’ variant  costing 10.7 Lakh. (Creta 1.6 diesel automatic ‘SX Plus’ variant retails for 13.96 Lakh) In addition to being 1.2 lakh Rs. cheaper, Vitara Brezza also has around 15 extra convenience and safety features, which are absent in the Creta S like Airbags, Parking Assistance System, Rain-Light Sensors etc. as detailed below.

Common Features: ABS, AC, Power Steering, Power Windows, Central Locking, Keyless Entry, Stereo: FM, USB, Aux, Bluetooth + 4 Speakers, Touch-screen, Electrically Adjustable Mirrors, Electric Tailgate Release, Fog Lamps, Driver’s Seat Height Adjust, 2 Tweeters, Steering Wheel Switches, Defogger

Extra Features in Vitara Brezza (ZDi+): Airbags-2, Climate Control, Parking Sensors, Parking Camera, Projector Headlamps, Navigation, CarPlay, Cruise Control, Electrically Folding Mirrors, LED DRLs, Push Button Start & Smart Key, Rear Wash-Wipe, Alloys, Electrically Folding Mirrors, Auto headlamps, Auto Wipers

Extra Features in Creta (1.4 S): Rear AC Vents

Performance & Drivability Comparison:
Thanks to Vitara Brezza’s lighter kerb weight, it has a significant advantage over the 1.4 litre Creta in terms of performance across the rev-range. Both cars suffer from turbo-lag below 2000 rpm, making them a chore to drive in city traffic. But once the turbo spools up, the Brezza holds a noticeable advantage over the smaller engined Creta. The bigger engined Creta has a similar advantage over the Vitara Brezza. But it is too expensive compared to the Brezza and only the comparison with the 1.4 Creta holds relevance to the buyers.

Power (PS@rpm): Vitara Brezza – 90@4000, Creta 1.4 - 90@4000, Creta 1.6 - 128@4000
Torque (Nm@rpm): Vitara Brezza – 200@1750, Creta 1.4 - 220@1500-2750, Creta 1.6 260@1900-2750
Kerb Weight (kg): Vitara Brezza – 1185, Creta 1.4 – 1260*, Creta 1.6 – 1290*

Power to Weight Ratio (PS/ton): Vitara Brezza – 76, Creta 1.4 - 71, Creta 1.6 – 99
Torque to Weight Ratio (Nm/ton): Vitara Brezza – 169, Creta 1.4 - 175, Creta 1.6 – 202

Fuel Efficiency Comparison:
In our back-to-back tests, the Vitara Brezza was over 1 kmpl more efficient than the Creta 1.4 and almost 2 kmpl more efficient than the 1.6 litre Creta.

ARAI Mileage (kmpl): Vitara Brezza (manual) – 24.3, Creta 1.4 (manual) – 21.4, Creta 1.6 (manual) – 19.7, Creta 1.6 (automatic) – 17.0

Fuel Cost for 75,000 km (Lakh):
Vitara Brezza (manual) – 2.15, Creta 1.4 (manual) – 2.62, Creta 1.6 (manual) – 2.85, Creta 1.6 (automatic) – 3.30

Space & Comfort Comparison:
Both cars have equally spacious cabins, with adequate space for 5 occupants. Creta has a tad more legroom than the Vitara Brezza but loses out a bit on shoulder space. Creta’s 400 litre boot is also marginally bigger than Vitara Brezza’s 328 litre boot capacity, but given that Vitara Brezza is a sub-4 metre vehicle and Creta is significantly longer than it, we expected the difference in boot capacities to be much more than it actually is.

Length (mm): Vitara Brezza – 3995, Creta - 4270
Width (mm): Vitara Brezza – 1790, Creta - 1780
Height (mm): Vitara Brezza – 1640, Creta - 1630

Ride Quality & Handling Comparison:
Vitara Brezza has far better dynamics than the Creta. Firstly, it handles much better than the Creta with a more precise steering and better body control as well as better balance around the bends. It is also more stable at speed as well as under panic braking situations than the Creta. Secondly, it absorbs bumps and ruts much better than the Creta. It is more pliant and does not crash audibly over the bumps the way Creta does. Brezza itself has some shortcomings compared to low-slung hatchbacks and sedans available for similar money, but still is significantly better than the Creta, which goes to show just how dynamically deficient Hyundai’s compact SUV really is.

Ground Clearance (mm): Vitara Brezza – 200, EcoSport – 200

Tyres:
Vitara Brezza: 215/60R16
Creta – 205/65R16 (Base, SX, SX Plus), 215/60R17 (SX O)

Reliability and After Sales Service Comparison:
Both Maruti and Hyundai have worked hard to build up outstanding reputations for reliability and after sales service in our country. However, Maruti-Suzuki still holds a distinct advantage over Hyundai in this regard. Firstly, Suzuki’s products have proven to be more reliable than Hyundai’s products in the past two decades in the Indian Market. And secondly, the sheer spread of Maruti’s 2000+ touch points is still far more than Hyundai’s 800 odd outlets.

Resale after 5 to 7 years est. (in Lakh):
Vitara Brezza is bound to hold slightly better residual value than the Creta, thanks to the after sales service and fuel efficiency advantage that it holds over the Hyundai.
Vitara Brezza (Diesel manual) – 5.75, Creta 1.4 (Diesel manual) – 6.40, Creta 1.6 (Diesel, automatic) – 7.70

Total Cost of Ownership (in Lakh): (Vehicle Price + Fuel Cost – Resale Value)
Vitara Brezza (diesel manual) – 5.99, Creta 1.4 (diesel manual) – 6.92, Creta 1.6 (diesel automatic) – 9.56

Verdict:
Vitara Brezza’s top-end ‘ZDi+’ variant is a mind blowing 1 Lakh Rs. cheaper in terms of Total Cost of Ownership than the Creta’s 1.4 litre engined, feature deficient ‘S’ variant. Without doubt it is better value for money and a more practical choice than the Hyundai Creta, given its extra features as well as superior dynamics compared to Creta and thus is the clear winner of this comparison.
